From January 1, 2025 announcement by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) have launched the first mandatory phase of unified charging ports for electronic devices in the Saudi market.
All targeted electronic devices must now feature a USB Type-C charging port to be sold in Saudi Arabia.
According to the announcement, the phase 2 will go into effect for Laptops from April 2026. Importers are advised to ensure all technical documentation meets the required standards, such as the SASO IEC 62680 series, for IECEE certificate applications. To maintain certificate validity and avoid potential suspension, manufacturers should verify that their test reports from accredited laboratories are up to date and submitted through the appropriate regulatory channels.
Phase 1-Active from Jan 1, 2025: Covers mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable gaming consoles, headphones, speakers, keyboards, mice, navigation systems, and wireless routers.
Phase 2-Starting April 1, 2026: The requirement will expand to include laptops.
