The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a revised regulatory framework (Version 1.4) for Short Range Devices and Terrestrial IoT, effective in December 2025 already.
Key Updates for Industry:
-New Technical Limits: Updated constraints on transmission power, duty cycles, and antenna specifications to reduce spectrum interference.
-Mandatory Type Approval: All IoT and SRD hardware must get PTA Type Approval before being imported or sold in the Pakistani market.
-Licensing Rules: Individual devices remain license-exempt if they meet technical limits; however, commercial IoT service providers must obtain formal PTA authorization.
-Global Alignment: Technical standards are now more closely synchronized with international wireless protocols to streamline cross-border trade.
All manufacturers and importers are required to ensure their product documentation aligns with the new Version 1.4 requirements to avoid customs or certification delays.
